It appears Texas has extort $25 million dollars from the other nine morons who are hanging onto the Big12. Of course UT is the only winner here. Texas will collect $25 million for a few more years and have a much easier road to the BCS National Championship. The tea sips will end up getting even more money from the PAC-10 when they bolt in 2015. It's good for UT, bad for the other nine schools and horrible for the college football fans.
When the dust clears, FBS Division 1 will look like this:
On Tuesday, the PAC -10 will create the first Super-Conference in NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division 1-A).
Once that 16-team league is established, the next step is for the Big Ten to follow suit by expanding to 15 teams, with the most desirable prospects coming from the Big East. Notre Dame is a member of the Big East in all sports except football, where they are Independent.
Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, are leaving the Big 12 for the PAC-10. Colorado has already joined the Pac-10. Nebraska left the Big 12 for the Big Ten.
The SEC is now actively looking to expand to Texas. The SEC wants the Longhorns but that is not going to happen. So it looks like the SEC will settle for If Texas A&M. It appears the new Pack-16 will be add Utah from the Mountain West Conference in place of the Aggies. Texas A&M will get their asses kicked early and often in the SEC.
Big 12 members, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Iowa State are searching for a home. The Mountain West Conference, which has already picked up Boise State & may loose Utah, has strong interest in picking up some of the Big 12 orphans, especially Kansas and Missouri.
Notre Dame will become the 16th member of the Big Ten in 2015, when their contract with NBC expires. The Irish want to be perceived as being force into the Big Ten to escape the crumbling Big East, rather than joining as a willing party and pissing off its alums. But make no mistake about it, Notre Dame is part of the Big Ten expansion conspiracy because the Irish have no future as an independent.
NBC is not going to pay ND the big bucks to play the likes of Western Michigan and Tulsa. The new Super Conferences will be playing nine conference games on their 12-game schedule. ND will not be able to fill its schedule with quality opponents as an Independent nor will they be able to command an NBC size contract in the future.
When the dust settles in 2015, look for five 16 team FBS Super Conferences, the PAC-10, Big Ten, SEC, ACC & the Mountain West Conference to be the home of 80 FBS schools. The five conference's title games, will evolve into a playoff for the FBS in conjunction with the almighty Bowls.
It's always about money. PERIOD. Texas is cashing in and making a fool of the other nine Big 12 schools, including Texas A&M.
