Tom Watson 1975,1977,1980,1982,1983
Tom Watson has won eight majors, five on links courses in the British Open.  When the third rounded ended today, Watson had a one shot lead, leaving him 18 holes away from becoming the oldest major champion in history.  The oldest major champion is Julius Boros, who was 48 when he won the 1968 PGA Championship.

The oldest player to win a regular tour event, America or Europe is Sam Snead. He won the Greater Greensboro Open in 1965 at age 52.

On Sunday, Watson will be playing in the final group with Mathew Goggin, a 35-year-old who hasn't won in ten years.  That victory was on the Nationwide Tour, the minor league PGA circuit.
